Actor Christian Oliver

Actor Christian Oliver of "Speed Racer" Dies in Aircraft Crash

The authorities in the Caribbean nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines stated on Thursday that a pilot, as well as Mr. Oliver's two young daughters, perished in the collision.

Christian Oliver, an actor known for his roles in movies and television, along with his two kids and a pilot, perished on Thursday when their small plane crashed while they were flying to the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, according to the police.

The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said in a statement on Thursday that Mr. Oliver, 51, who starred in films such as "The Good German," "Speed Racer," and the TV show "Saved by The Bell: The New Class," and his daughters were the only occupants of the single-engine aircraft departing from the island of Bequia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, when it crashed into the sea at midday.

Along with Mr. Oliver and his children, 10 year old Madita Klepser and 12 year old Annik Klepser, the pilot, Robert Sachs, also perished, according to the authorities. The victims were found by fishermen and divers, who then gave them to the Coast Guard of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the police said in a statement on Friday.

The authorities reported that immediately after taking off from J.F. Mitchell Airport in Bequia, the aircraft "experienced difficulties and plummeted into the ocean." They claimed that no more details were available on the crash's cause, which is being looked into.

According to an email sent on Friday by Caprice Crawford, Mr. Oliver's representative in Berlin, the individual was born in Germany and held dual citizenship there and in the United States. According to her, he split his time between Los Angeles and his native country, going by Christian Oliver in his professional life rather than his full name, Christian Oliver Klepser.

George Clooney and Cate Blanchett starred in "The Good German," a 2006 picture that Mr. Oliver co-produced with Steven Soderbergh. His other endeavors included voice work in the films "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" (2023) and "Valkyrie" (2008), both starring Tom Cruise.

About a week ago, he shared a picture from the set of his recently completed film, "Forever Hold Your Peace," on social media.

Mr. Oliver shared his final snapshot, which he said was taken "from somewhere in paradise," earlier this week.

Along with filmmaker Nick Lyon, Mr. Oliver was co-producing the story "Forever Hold Your Peace," which is about marital fraud. In an interview on Friday, Mr. Lyon stated that Mr. Oliver had texted him on Thursday morning regarding his intention to work on a scene on Friday when he returned to the United States.

Mr. Lyon, who had collaborated with Mr. Oliver on "Hercules Reborn" in 2014, stated, "It was a big project for us." "We had discussed it for years."
